3 months

Three months. My goodness I cannot believe how fast time is flying by.

You got to meet a lot of your family this month and you were so fascinated by them all and loved exploring their faces (as long as I was nearby). You search the room for your Daddy and I and when you find us, you smile really big. It warms my heart.
This month you've really gained head control. You really don't need support at all anymore but I offer it anyway because I'm in denial that you don't.

You have started rolling to your belly from your back. I was shocked when you did it once and thought it was a fluke and then you did it again quickly thereafter. No more swaddle for you, you've officially graduated to sleep sacks.
You have started to open your mouth when I (or your Daddy) kiss you. It's by far the cutest thing I have ever seen. It's also burned me a few times because it's resulted in you throwing up in my mouth (tmi?). Still, it's my favorite thing you've started doing this month.
You have started eating more and finally gaining weight. Your doctor is finally happy with where you are weight wise!!
You still love to laugh at me when I dance crazy, read certain books (Clifford the Big Red Dog is a hit right now), and wake up first thing in the morning.

Your cradle cap and eczema are finally going away. You've been so good about not crying out when I put lotion on your skin. You rub your face constantly and I'm scared it's because it's so itchy. We're working on getting rid of it. Promise.

Things I will never understand

Why moms must year each other down to make themselves feel better.
Why movie theater popcorn tastes better than anything I can make at home.
How the smell of McDonalds can sicken and entice me at the same time.
How oil company CEO's sleep at night .
Why I'll buy something on sale even though I know I'll never wear/use it because it's a good deal.
How people can drive for miles with their turn signal on. Can't you hear it clicking?!
Why I won't buy chocolate at the grocery store but I'll make 50 trips to the gas station for some.

Anything you'll never quite "get"?

2 months

Emma Jane,
I cannot believe you are two months old. Where in the world has time gone? This month, you've really learned and grown so much I'm torn between being sad that it's going by too fast and happy to see you reach new developmental marks.

You love play time at night. You have started reaching for the toys on your play mat and seem really shocked when you actually touch one of them. You have started to really love tummy time as well. I always feel so bad for you because you spit up the entire time you're on your belly but you seem so content. You love to follow the lights on your Baby Einstein mirror and you bob your head to the music (although I'm pretty sure this is you not having 100% control over your head and not actual dancing).
You suck down your bottles! This is huge news for us because you had such a hard time eating when you were first born. Truth be told, your Daddy and I used to hate feeding you but now we fight over who gets to.

I'm pretty sure you're going to be an early talker. You make the sweetest noises constantly and carry on conversations with me. You love to tell me all about it.
The best thing this month is that you've started to smile when you see me or your Daddy. It's the best feeling in the entire world to see you smile at me. You smile whenever I dance crazy which makes me laugh. The crazier the dance, the bigger the smile (this has resulted in me looking like I'm having a seizure but you love it). I've learned I'll do anything to make you smile, no matter how incredibly ridiculous I look (but I will close the blinds!).

You're still having a rough time gaining weight and the doctor has told us to add a little rice cereal into your formula to see if that helps.

You had your second trip to the ER (but the first trip was for me). You had a fever due to dehydration from spitting up so much. They put an IV in your little hand and drew tons of blood. You were such a little trooper and cried so much less than I did. They also had to catheterize you and I completely lost it hearing you scream from the pain. I'm so glad that you're ok and I pray that you never have to experience that again.

You have found your hands and love sucking on them. I really wanted you to take a a pacifier but you chose your hand. In fact, you'll spit out your paci and stick your little fist right in there.

You're rotten and we love you.

Ok to be happy.

This Lenten Season I'm giving up my two usuals. No coke until Easter & no celeb gossip until Easter. But, this year will be different because I'm forcing myself to be happier. Let me explain.

Material things have become too high of a priority (sad but true). Ive become envious of people who have more. I'm forcing myself to take a step back and realize it's ok if I don't dress Emma Jane in smocked clothing everyday. It's ok to shop from my own closet. I don't need to buy Willy something every time I want him to feel loved. I'm not the worlds worst mother if Emma Jane doesn't have every single toy available in her age range. It's ok to be happy with what I have, which in all honesty, is everything I've ever dreamed of.

Cheers to finding my happy without digging into my wallet.

Surprise visit

For Emma Jane's first time out of the house (other than Doctor's appointments), we decided to go surprise Willy at work. I sent him the pic below of Emma Jane sitting on his desk and he asked where we were going....I responded: um, we're in your office. It took all of five seconds for him to run back and scoop her up.

tiny changes.

We've made a few tiny changes in the living room that I'm just realizing I hadn't shared.

About a month ago, we finally got a new rug! I love it and it fills up the space so much better than our old rug that was made from recycled t-shirts. I freaking loved the old rug because it was super super soft but that thing was IMPOSSIBLE to clean and had a smell that I couldn't deal with. It found a new home a la Mr. Dumpster. PS- can you spot the stow-away in the pic?

We also switched out the photos above the couch for a new family portrait and a picture of our daughter. I know that wall looks plain but the other side of the living room has so much going on if that wall was packed I would go nuts. I definitely have a minimalist aesthetic.

My little Valentine.

There were no fancy dinners but there was 11 dead roses and tons of baby cuddles. Hope your Valentines day was great :)

One of these women is proof that you don't need gimmicks if you are truly talented.

Life in the deeeeep south

Y'all I love being southern. Big hair? Yes please. Sweet tea? Check. Never meeting a stranger? Scary sometimes but nice :) But. my fav southern trait is southern hospitality (I've blogged about this before).

Speaking of which, this was sitting on my car from an anonymous neighbor waiting for me today.

I seriously had no clue how big of a deal Mardi Gras is down here but dude, it's A BIG DEAL. School is out, there's a million parades, and it dominates the news. So happy Mardi Gras to everyone especially my anonymous neighbor :)
